A project that reflects a shared human impulse to align with the stars, to carve meaning into the earth, and to live in rhythm with the natural world. Our ancestors moved through the world—drawing stories and meaning from the contours of the earth, mapping constellations of sacred geographies through movement, memory, and myth. Today, that web is fraying. In its place, a persistent drive to sever connection: to isolate, to divide, and to distract.

Over two days we took part in seven performances where each participant took a turn at leading a short silent walk, drawing the attention of the group through the positioning of a megaphone.. The cues directed the group to map something visual, auditory and to note a sense using words. Together they created 6 maps that built up over the walks into one artwork.

The Physical outcome was a series of maps. Each individual map drawn on by each participant. All together they formed a physical object, a structure that is a container of our movements together on the land at CasaWabi. This Artwork represents the traces of a community and myself together on this land. It will be held at CasaWabi within their collection.

I walked the grounds, mapping my movements gathering sensory information. My days and weeks held on to this routine and as my connections with the place grew, a site-specific project formed. Objects gathered along side materials found. Over the period of one month I made small ceramic objects that felt like connectors of sorts holding all that I accumulated over time. Unfired local earth connected my movements with string as I retraced my steps through a two hour durational performance. When that brief time of memory and reconnection was spent, I crushed the ceramic objects and returned them and found organic materials back to the land. This did happen I think this is the only trace.
